Any communications involving credit card numbers are passed through the encrypted HTTPS protocal and sent directly to the payment provider.
The only ports open for access to the server are the following: HTTP, HTTPS, SSH . HTTPS and SSH are encrypted protocols. HTTP is the only non-encrypted port which is managed by the web server software Apache 2.2 and is required for a regular website. FTP and Telnet access are disabled which are older insecure methods of communicating with the server.
